What is gold leaf?

Churches, castles and other important buildings used to be decorated with gold leaf. The wafer-thin layer of gold leaf weathers over the years and literally loses its shine. To restore this is a very precise job that requires patience and love of the trade. Gold is the most precious metal and we lovingly restore the building or object to its original splendour.
